cederberg community support

OUR MISSION

rooted in community.
restoring dignity.
rebuilding hope.

The goed foundation is a community-focused non-profit initiative linked to The Goed Life, working in partnership with Rob Templeton and his dedicated team to support the remote outstations of the Cederberg.

Our focus includes communities such as Wupperthal, Heuningvlei, Eselbank, Wittewater, Kleinvlei, and Langkloof. Places of breathtaking beauty, deep faith heritage, and extraordinary resilience.

Rob’s longstanding connection to the Cederberg and his genuine heart for its people form a central part of this work. Through the goed foundation, Rob and the team are not offering assistance from a distance — they are committed to walking alongside these communities in a meaningful, relational, and sustainable way.

“These are not just villages. They are historic outstations — faith-rooted settlements that have stood for generations.”

OUR WORK

walking alongside the
cederberg communities

We listen first. We collaborate with local leadership. We prioritise dignity over charity. This is not a once-off project – it is an ongoing commitment.

soup kitchen

Feeding approximately 60 elderly, sick, and vulnerable residents. We ensure electricity is maintained, fund food supplies, and coordinate donor partnerships. Because dignity begins with nourishment.

supporting the elderly

Many elderly residents rely on shared transport to travel long distances for essential groceries. We assist with transport costs, coordinate monthly grocery support, and advocate for consistent access.

rebuilding the pre-school

A devastating fire destroyed the local pre-school. We are committed to completing the rebuild, providing furniture, learning materials, and basic infrastructure. When we rebuild a classroom, we rebuild possibility.

restoring self-sustainability

Repairing thatch roofs, restoring historic water canals destroyed by floods, rebuilding community vegetable gardens, and supporting female rooibos farmers. The goal is long-term resilience.

OUR CAMPAIGNS

where your support goes

Because dignity begins with nourishment.

KEEPING THE SOUP KITCHEN RUNNING

In remote Cederberg outstations like Heuningvlei, isolation is part of daily life. For many elderly and ill residents, a warm meal is not guaranteed.

The local soup kitchen feeds approximately 60 people at a time — the elderly, the ill, and the vulnerable. But electricity to run fridges costs money. Food supplies need replenishing. Transport is expensive.

The goed foundation works alongside community leaders to ensure this lifeline continues.

WATER FOR FOOD GARDENS

In the mountains of the Cederberg, water once flowed through hand-built canals – guiding river water into community vegetable gardens. Those canals were the lifeline.

When floods swept through the region, they destroyed the canal systems entirely – the only infrastructure that channelled water from the river to the soil. Without canals, gardens cannot survive. Without gardens, food security disappears.

The goed foundation is working to restore these vital water systems – not as a quick fix, but as a long-term investment in dignity and resilience.

Restoring independence and food security.

When we rebuild a classroom, we rebuild possibility.

RESTORING THE PRESCHOOL

A devastating fire destroyed the local pre-school serving children in the Cederberg outstations. Years later, it remains incomplete.

For families in isolated communities like Wupperthal, early childhood education is not easily accessible. Transport to other towns is costly and unrealistic. A pre-school is more than a building. It is safety. It is early learning. It is stability for working parents.

The goed foundation is committed to completing the rebuild and equipping the space with furniture, learning materials, and basic infrastructure.

DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

In partnership with goed™ and Cederbos, we’re working with the Wuppertal community in the Cederberg region to support small-scale farmers, particularly women, in developing sustainable agricultural practices and accessing new markets.

GET INVOLVED

stand with the cederberg

These outstations are rich in heritage, culture, and faith – but poor in access to resources. Together, we can bridge the distance. Your support helps keep a soup kitchen running, rebuild a pre-school lost to fire, restore gardens and water systems, and strengthen female farmers and families.
